Jewellery Materials

Understanding the metal, finish and stones used in a piece helps you compare jewellery properly. This guide explains the materials you will commonly see across The Luxury Jewellery product range.

Sterling silver

Many silver pieces are made from 925 sterling silver. The “925” mark refers to the silver purity standard used for sterling silver. Some pieces may also have a plated or rhodium-finished surface, which can change the appearance and help protect the finish.

Gold

Gold jewellery may be listed by carat, such as 9ct, 14ct or 18ct. The carat indicates the proportion of gold in the alloy. Gold can also be described by colour, including yellow gold, white gold and rose gold.

Always use the material stated on the individual product page as the specification for that piece.

Plating and surface finishes

Some jewellery is rhodium plated or finished to achieve a particular colour, shine or surface appearance. Plating is a surface treatment rather than the base metal itself, so both the underlying material and the finish matter when comparing products.

Diamonds and cubic zirconia

The range includes pieces set with natural diamonds as well as cubic zirconia. These are different materials, so check the product specification carefully rather than relying on appearance alone.

Where a product includes stone type, colour, weight or other verified details, those specifications are shown on the individual product page.

Caring for jewellery materials

  • Store pieces separately where possible to reduce scratching.
  • Avoid unnecessary contact with household chemicals, perfumes and cosmetics.
  • Use a soft, suitable cloth for routine cleaning.
  • Take extra care with plated jewellery because repeated abrasion can wear the surface finish over time.
  • Follow any care information supplied for the specific product.
